To mark Remembrance Day, the Bromley Historical Society welcomes back Professor Mark McGowan to speak on his book, The Imperial Irish: The Irish Canadian and the First World War.
The free public presentation will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2pm, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 34 Pembroke Street, Cobden. This presentation is the Society’s 2025 Dan Gorman Memorial Lecture, which honours a former member of the Society, who was passionate about his Ottawa Valley family roots.
Irish Canadians, despite the complicated political landscape of Irish nationalism and the Easter Rising in Ireland, largely supported the war.
Encouraged by the clergy to sign up, they fought alongside other groups from Canada.
