Reflections on Legacy and Restoration
A walk through an old cemetery sparks thoughts on respect and restoration after vandalism.
As I walked with my sister through a very old cemetery, I was reminded of the phrase
"You live as long as you are remembered."
The cemetery, tucked away on a quiet country road, holds a special significance as a part of our home community's history. Exploring the ancient soapstone monuments was a fascinating experience, despite the potential for sadness.
My sister and I have a personal connection to the issue of cemetery vandalism, having fought back against desecration of the oldest cemetery in our region, the Eckley Cemetery, in the 1990s.
