Lawrence high school gymnasts compete in emotional final meet; Sunflower League ends program

Lawrence High School Gymnasts Compete in Emotional Final Meet

The combined Lawrence high school girls gymnastics program has come to an end after the team's final competition over the weekend.

In December 2021, the Lawrence school district proposed cutting the program, but supporters rallied to save it. Although the program was initially saved in April 2022, the Sunflower League has now announced it will cut girls gymnastics as an official league sport after the fall 2025 season, citing dwindling participation.

The state gymnastics competition on Saturday was Harper Huston's last competitive meet, after participating in the sport since she was 7 and recreationally since she was a toddler.

The end of the program marks a significant change for the school district and the students involved.
