Military archbishop: Army’s cancellation of religious support contracts unfairly harms Catholics - OSV News

Military Archbishop Criticizes Cancellation of Religious Support Contracts

The Archdiocese for the Military Services announced that the Army has cancelled all religious support contracts for Army chapels.

According to Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, this cancellation includes contracts for religious educators, administrators, and musicians.

“For those who attend Mass, visit chapel offices, or participate in faith formation on a U.S. Army installation, you likely noticed, that beginning on Sunday, 5 October 2025, contract services and contractor offices were dark and music was absent during Mass,”

The archbishop stated that this decision has placed "an insurmountable restriction on the free exercise of religion" on Catholics.

A letter addressing this issue will be sent to all members of Congress and the military archdiocese.
