Thirty original Bob Ross paintings will be sold to offset station licensing fees for American Public Television's Create multicast channel.
The auction, which will be held by Bonhams over the next three years, is expected to raise significant funds. The idea for the sale was conceived by Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., after two privately held Ross paintings were sold for around $100,000 each in August.
My head started ticking away, like, 'Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,'
says Kowalski, who found the amount the Bonhams pieces went for "very shocking". The paintings were created by Ross on his long-running series, The Joy of Painting.
The sale will help alleviate licensing fees stations pay for APT's Create multicast channel. Author's summary: Bob Ross paintings are being auctioned to support APT's Create channel.
