Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Tony-winning writer Cole Escola are collaborating to bring a new film about Miss Piggy to life. The project is in early development at Disney, which holds the rights to the Muppets. This movie will be the first feature film centered on the iconic diva puppet, who debuted on Jim Henson’s The Muppet Show in the 1970s.
"I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it."
Lawrence revealed this on the podcast Las Culturistas, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
When asked whether Lawrence and Stone would co-star, Lawrence responded playfully:
"I think so. We have to… It’s fucked up [that we haven’t done a movie together]."
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence shared that the idea originated with Stone during the pandemic lockdowns and the height of cancel culture. Stone reportedly said:
"Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled."
Lawrence clarified that this is not necessarily the film's plot, but it sparked the creative process.
This upcoming Miss Piggy movie unites Lawrence, Stone, and Escola to spotlight the Muppets' diva in a fresh, contemporary story inspired by feminist themes and cultural moments.
