The annual That Luang festival has started in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, marking five days of vibrant celebration, spiritual devotion, and active commerce. This event, held from November 1 to 5, is among the most important cultural festivals nationwide, combining tradition, community spirit, and business opportunities.
The festival not only preserves Laos' cultural heritage but also stimulates tourism and trade. Many view it as an excellent chance to increase sales and introduce new businesses to the large crowds attending each day.
Phoum, a 25-year-old resident of Vientiane, shared with Xinhua how the festival offers a platform to quickly grow small businesses by reaching a broad audience in a short time. Inspired by friends who successfully sold food last year, he and his friends set up a stall selling drinks and snacks to earn extra income.
"Last year, I watched my friends run food stalls during the festival, and I was amazed at how much they earned in just a few days. It made me realize that even a small business, in a big crowd like this, can grow quickly and reach many people," Phoum said.
The That Luang festival exemplifies how cultural events can energize local economies while maintaining spiritual and communal values.
