Carrie Bickmore OAM, broadcaster and cancer fundraiser, was honored as the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria at a Melbourne ceremony on November 6.
Since 2015, Bickmore has raised over $27 million to support brain cancer research. In 2021, she established The Brain Cancer Centre to unite top researchers in the search for a cure.
Brain cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease, and more people under 40 than any other cancer, including Bickmore's late husband, Greg, who died in 2010.
Advocate Bryan Lipmann AM was named the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria. He founded Wintringham, providing safe housing and care for the elderly homeless, supporting 3,000 people today.
Abraham Kuol received the title of 2026 Young Australian of the Year for Victoria.
Carrie Bickmore's dedicated fundraising and leadership in brain cancer research mark a significant step forward, while other honorees highlight impactful community service in Victoria.
