Will Richard had an impressive debut for the Golden State Warriors in his first NBA start on Wednesday. The former University of Florida standout scored 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also contributed seven rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes during a 121-116 loss at the Sacramento Kings.
Richard had not played in the Warriors’ previous two games, where the team went 1-1. However, several injuries to key players like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green gave Richard a chance to step into the starting lineup. He responded with a strong performance.
“He’s shown he’s an NBA player,” Kerr said. “The experience, the poise – he doesn’t turn it over, he makes the right play. This guy’s a hell of a player.”
Despite Richard's standout effort, the Warriors fell short to the Kings. Sacramento was led by former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, who made history with his 204th triple-double, the most in NBA history, finishing with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Warriors, now holding a 5-4 record, will face the Denver Nuggets at 10 p.m.
