Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant shared his unconventional thoughts on marriage, revealing a lack of enthusiasm for tying the knot despite his determination to lead the Houston Rockets to an NBA championship this season.
During an appearance on Bobbi Althoff’s podcast, Not This Again, Durant explained why he doesn’t plan to get married anytime soon. He noted the high likelihood of divorce, saying,
“I think divorce is actually more of a realistic… ‘cause I mean, the percentage is higher.”
Althoff informed him that about 50% of marriages end in divorce, which led Durant to remark,
“That’s not good odds.”
When reminded of his ability to beat odds on the basketball court, Durant replied,
“But still, that’s like banking on the rest, like, forever though… I don’t know if I want to take those odds.”
Durant clarified that it’s not just the word “marriage” that concerns him, but the idea of daily commitment to one person.
“Do I want to be with this somebody every day? Hang with the same person every day?”
He revealed that as a child, he never imagined himself as a groom and has never been attached to the idea of having a wedding day.
“I never really dreamt of having a wedding day. It was never really when I go to weddings. This is cool.”
Still, he added,
“It’s not like it needs to happen in my mind.”
Kevin Durant approaches marriage skeptically, valuing his personal freedom over traditional commitments and cautious about the high divorce rates influencing his view on lifelong partnerships.
