Valentin Vacherot became Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion by beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai.

Vacherot, the world number 204, made history as the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 event. He came from a set down for the sixth time in the tournament, winning 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Rinderknech won the opening set, striking 12 winners and committing just two unforced errors. However, Vacherot broke his opponent in consecutive games from 3-3 in the second set, leading by a break in the third.

He beat four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
