Advantages of 'Epi-On' Over 'Epi-Off' Treatment of Keratoconus

Keratoconus, a corneal condition, is treated with cornea collagen crosslinking, which strengthens chemical bonds among corneal fibrils.
Traditionally, this is done after removing a thin layer of corneal epithelium, but an alternative "epi-on" approach leaves the epithelium intact.
Beckman, M.D., a cornea specialist, presented research findings on the epi-on approach at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting.
