Canada to Strengthen Criminal Code

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced plans to introduce new legislation to amend the Criminal Code, targeting violent and repeat offenders.

The proposed changes include "reverse-onus bail" for major crimes, consecutive sentencing, and harsher penalties for organized retail theft and certain sexual offences.

Carney's government plans to table the legislation next week, aiming to strengthen the Criminal Code for crimes such as violent auto theft, breaking and entering, human trafficking, violent assault, and sexual assault.

The government also promises to hire 1,000 RCMP personnel Canada-wide.
