Alaskan Triathlete Achieves Big Win at Ironman World Championship

Anchorage triathlete Samantha Skold had a remarkable performance at the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Skold, a 31-year-old Air Force captain stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER), finished the championship in 9 hours, 34 minutes, and 59 seconds. This impressive time earned her 33rd place out of 1,673 women overall, as well as a top finish in her division (30-34 years old) and first overall for amateur athletes.

“Last year at the World Championships, I placed fourth, and that’s kind of when I got the idea like, ‘oh, wow, I actually am pretty good at an amateur level worldwide,’ and I’m really excited to see what happens the next season,”

she recalled, reflecting on her previous experience and future aspirations.
