Tennessee Fishing Guide Catches Record Bass that Officials Say Shouldn't Be There

Tennessee Fishing Guide Catches Record Bass

A state-record fish was caught by Caleb Bell, certified by Tennessee officials as an Alabama bass, a subspecies of spotted bass considered invasive in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed the species in a lab and recognized the new state-record bass, weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces, caught from Parksville Reservoir in Polk County.

“Unfortunately, Alabama Bass are an invasive species that was introduced illegally in Tennessee,”

the agency noted. The previous Alabama bass record was caught in 2014 from the same lake, weighing 3 ounces less.
