Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com interviewed former WWE creative team member Andrew Goldstein for The Insiders podcast, where Goldstein shared how Dusty Rhodes came up with the MVP gimmick, inspired by NFL star Terrell Owens.
According to Goldstein, Rhodes was working with MVP in developmental, where he was doing an early version of his character. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that it was around the time when the Eagles had Terrell Owens, which influenced Rhodes' idea.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
Goldstein explained that Rhodes brought together the full body suit and sports-styled presentation, which became the MVP character. Author's summary: NFL star inspires WWE MVP character.
