Boulder Canyon, once a symbol of adventure and a lifeline for mountain towns, is now unsafe to visit due to rockslides near Boulder Falls.
The area was founded in February 1859 by gold-seekers as a supply town for miners in the mountains, with a dirt road branching off into Fourmile Canyon and another winding uphill through Magnolia.
Initially, Boulder Canyon was considered impassable, but the discovery of silver at Caribou in 1869 sparked an opportunity for Boulder merchants to capitalize on the mining boom.
