N.J. School Boards Association Removes President

The New Jersey School Boards Association removed its president, Tammeisha Smith, from office on Friday evening for violating the organization's code of conduct.

According to the association, Smith breached an oath that stated:

I refuse to surrender my independent judgment to special interests or use my position or title of office for personal or financial gain, or for the personal or financial gain of others.

Smith, who is also the president and CEO of The Dunbar Center, a Newark health care facility, declined to comment on the matter. The association did not release details about Smith's particular offense.

The removal was made by a vote of 19-4.
