Philadelphia Medical Examiner Reaffirms Ellen Greenberg's Stabbing Death as Suicide

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office has issued a report affirming its ruling that the 2011 stabbing death of Ellen Greenberg, a 27-year-old Manayunk teacher, was a suicide.

Greenberg was found with 20 stab wounds in her apartment on January 26, 2011. The report, issued by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Lindsay Simon, states that Greenberg would have been capable of inflicting injuries on herself.

According to the report, there was no sign of a struggle at the scene nor any sign of an intruder. Additionally, the report corroborates Greenberg's fiancé's alibi, stating that he was at the gym at the time of her death, supported by surveillance video, keycard swipes, and other evidence.

The family's attorney called the report "an embarrassment."

The 32-page report concludes that the evidence supports the ruling of suicide, despite years of controversy and calls for change.
