Antonelli Admits Mid-Season Struggles and Mental Reboot After Monza

Antonelli Reflects on Mid-Season Struggles

Mercedes junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has spoken candidly about the mental battle he faced during a mid-season slump in his rookie Formula 2 campaign. After a strong start, a series of difficult weekends pushed him into what he described as a “negative spiral.”

“I entered a negative spiral where every mistake made me doubt myself more,” Antonelli explained. “It was tough to break that cycle.”

Resetting After Monza

Following a disappointing performance at Monza, the 18-year-old took time away from the spotlight to reset mentally and physically. He worked with his team on maintaining focus and rediscovering confidence behind the wheel.

“After Monza, I had to reset. I stopped thinking about results and started focusing on enjoying the driving again.”

This mindset change helped Antonelli find renewed consistency and pace in the latter half of the season.

Return to Form and Rookie Success

By the final rounds, Antonelli’s resilience paid off. He climbed back through the standings, finishing as the highest-scoring rookie in Formula 2. His mental reset not only improved his on-track results but also strengthened his approach to pressure.

“The key lesson was trusting the process,” he said. “You need to accept that tough moments happen, learn from them, and move forward.”

The young Italian now looks ahead to the next stage of his motorsport journey with a stronger sense of balance and self-belief.

Author summary: Antonelli overcame a mental dip mid-season through reflection and focus, ending his rookie F2 campaign as the top newcomer and mentally stronger than before.
