Dead Static Drive launches on Xbox and Game Pass on November 5th. Branded with the tagline “Grand Theft Cthulhu,” its inspirations from Lovecraftian horror are unmistakable.
The game is set in a mid-1980s American Southwest gradually consumed by nightmarish creatures. Players control Hearst, a teen whose gender, first name, and appearance can be customized. Hearst is on a quest to find their long-lost parents.
The map consists of several cities scattered across the region. As you travel between them, you face challenges like hunting down monstrous creatures, stopping dangerous enemies, and completing quests. One key mechanic is managing fuel for your car, essential for crossing the vast landscape.
"Dead Static Drive had more quests break on me than any game I can remember."
Despite its flaws, the game features moments of enjoyment and a compelling atmosphere that captures a unique horror experience.
Dead Static Drive offers a captivating setting and concept marred by technical issues and inconsistent quest design, delivering a mixed but memorable horror road trip experience.
