Ricky Martin has been in the public eye for over four decades, starting his career at age 12 when he joined the boy band Menudo. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he gained solo fame with hits like “She Bangs” and “Livin’ la Vida Loca.”
Martin publicly came out as gay in 2010 through a post on his website. Reflecting on that moment during a 2024 SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen, he expressed no regrets about his decision.
“I wish I could come out 20 times,” Martin said. “Of course, I started crying like a baby. You know, I pressed send and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s it?’ My assistant, who’s still my assistant, Paco, he was next to me, and I’m like, ‘I think I need a hug.’”
Before coming out, Martin had several public relationships with women. In a 2012 Vanity Fair interview, he noted the value of all his past relationships.
“There was love, passion. I do not regret anything, any of the relationships I lived, they taught me a lot, both men and women.”
He became a single parent in 2008 with the birth of his sons Matteo and Valentino via surrogate. Later, with his former husband Jwan Yose, he had two more children—a son and a daughter. As of November 2025, Martin is publicly single.
Ricky Martin embraces his past openly, valuing every relationship and parenthood stage while confidently living his truth in the public spotlight.
