As wintry winds from Canada sweep across the U.S., Florida will experience its first freeze of the season earlier than usual. While most of the state enjoys warm weather this weekend, colder conditions are approaching.
"A cold outbreak will plunge into the U.S. this weekend and bring the coldest air of the season to the Midwest and Northeast, a widespread freeze into the Deep South with some record lows possible as far South as Florida," said Weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Erdman.
The coldest temperatures will hit the Midwest, South, and East, but Florida will also see a significant drop, with the first freeze expected by Monday night, weeks ahead of schedule.
According to AccuWeather meteorologist Alex DaSilva, "Temperatures across the eastern half of the nation — including all the way to South Florida — can be 8-16 degrees below historical averages," with some record lows possibly being challenged.
"Northern Florida can see temperatures in some areas dip below freezing."
Residents should prepare with jackets, hoodies, and sweaters as the arctic blast moves in.
Florida will face an unusually early freeze next week as Arctic air pushes temperatures significantly below normal, with potential record lows across the state.
