Frigid air is expected to sweep into Florida on Sunday evening, signaling an early arrival of winter. After a pleasant weekend of sunny skies and cool breezes, the weather is taking a sharp turn as the cold front moves in from Canada.
"A cold outbreak will plunge into the U.S. this weekend and bring the coldest air of the season to the Midwest and Northeast, a widespread freeze into the Deep South with some record lows possible as far south as Florida," said Weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Erdman.
The mass of Arctic air could bring potentially record-breaking temperatures across much of the country, reaching the Sunshine State by late Sunday. Forecasts show that temperatures for Monday and Tuesday nights keep trending downward.
By the end of the week, temperatures are anticipated to rebound gradually as the cold front moves eastward.
Winter weather is arriving early in Florida as freezing temperatures spread south, bringing the season’s first chill before conditions warm up again later in the week.
