Radio legend Sara Cox is beginning the longest ever Children In Need challenge today, a 135-mile trek equivalent to five marathons in five days. The BBC Radio 2 drivetime host, originally from Bolton, will walk across four counties — Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire — to complete the Great North Marathon Challenge and raise thousands for charity.
She will run, jog, and walk through moorland, ridges, and rolling hills of northern England, supported by towns, villages, and Radio 2 listeners. Her husband, advertising executive Ben Cyzer, with whom she has two children, will be cheering her on during the challenge.
Before meeting Ben Cyzer, Sara had a difficult past relationship. Last year, she revealed she was in a very unhappy relationship when she first moved to London in the mid-1990s. At that time, she lived in Arnos Grove, Enfield, north London, in a converted church.
"I was in a very unhappy relationship when I first moved to London. I lived in Arnos Grove in Enfield, north London, in a converted church. I was with this person who turned out to be horrible and he stole from me."
Sara Cox, now a dedicated charity fundraiser, overcame a difficult early relationship and built a family with her husband Ben Cyzer while balancing a successful radio career.
