The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, effective from midday until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, November 11. This alert covers Plymouth and the broader South West region, urging residents to prepare for potential disruptions.
Heavy rain will start in the morning and continue through the afternoon into the evening, accompanied by southerly gales. Forecasters predict rainfall amounts up to 40mm in most areas, with some locations receiving as much as 70mm.
Residents should be aware that homes and properties may be at risk of flooding. Travel is expected to be widely affected due to spray and standing water on roads, leading to delays and hazardous driving conditions.
"Given recent wet weather, and saturated ground in places, this could lead to flooding in a few spots. More generally, difficult driving conditions are likely for the evening commute in particular, with delays due to slow traffic and the increased possibility of accidents."
The Environment Agency continues to monitor water levels and, while no flood alerts are currently in place, it notes that sea and river levels remain high.
The Met Office may extend the current warning or issue new alerts for Wednesday, November 12, as additional rainfall is forecast.
