Glen Powell, known for his role in Anyone But You, stars in the second adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel The Running Man, following Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 version. On the Friday night episode of the Graham Norton Show, the 37-year-old actor opened up about filming a revealing, half-naked stunt in the new action thriller.
Glen described the challenge of abseiling down eight stories of a building in freezing weather, wearing only a harness that "cinched" him tightly. He joked about the less flattering effects of the harness on his appearance:
"I had to abseil down eight storeys of a building in freezing conditions half naked and wearing a harness which cinched me – believe me nothing looked good."
Adding humor to the situation, Glen revealed that a crew member's role was to prevent him from kicking a window, which meant he was unintentionally exposed to repeated views during the takes:
"There was a guy whose only job was to stop me kicking a window, which means he was looking up my skirt all night, I wondered what he was seeing take after take."
Glen also shared how he was left embarrassed but grateful after receiving a lengthy call from legendary stuntman and actor Tom Cruise. The Top Gun star, 63, advised him on how to perform safely and convincingly:
"Tom rang me to give me the low down and, what I thought would be a ten min call, lasted two and half hours – he basically told me how not to die."
Tom Cruise even candidly told Glen he didn't "look cool," adding a humorous touch to the coaching session.
Glen Powell humorously recounts his challenging half-naked stunt in The Running Man and highlights the unexpected guidance from Tom Cruise, blending vulnerability and wit in navigating demanding action scenes.
