Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox is embarking on an ambitious 135-mile challenge in support of Children in Need. The Bolton-born presenter has launched a five-day journey starting from Kielder Forest near the Scottish borders and aims to finish in Pudsey, Leeds, by Friday.
This effort follows that of her Radio 2 colleague Paddy McGuinness, who raised £10 million last year during a demanding cycling challenge. Unlike Paddy, Sara will tackle her route entirely on foot through northern England.
Starting on Monday, November 10, and set to conclude on Friday, November 14, the “Great Northern Marathon Challenge” will see Sara running, jogging, and walking across four counties: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. The total route spans 135 miles, culminating just in time for the Children in Need broadcast on BBC One.
Carrying the iconic Pudsey Bear mascot for the entire route, Sara’s symbolic goal is to quite literally bring “Pudsey to Pudsey.”
“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”
Her determination aims to inspire donations and awareness for Children in Need, helping improve the lives of disadvantaged children across the UK.
