Ian Leavers, Queensland’s cross-border commissioner, has passed away at his home. Police reported he was found around 9:50 am, and although his death is not considered suspicious, investigations continue.
Public Tribute and Legacy
Premier David Crisafulli paid tribute to Leavers, stating, “Leavers has been a strong voice for the challenges facing communities and businesses along the state’s borders during a critical stage of rebuilding following the impact of the COVID pandemic. Ian earned the respect of Queenslanders for saying it how it was, and always standing up for the police service he loved.”
He described Leavers as dedicated, principled, and committed to making a difference in Queensland. The Premier also noted his leadership during some of the state’s most tragic and defining moments.
