'It's time to leave shit behind': Mark Parton's plan to lead unified Liberals to government | Region Canberra

Mark Parton’s Call for Unity in Canberra Liberals

At 3:40 PM, the newly elected leader of the Canberra Liberals, Mark Parton, announced his commitment to guiding the party, alongside his deputy Deborah Morris, toward unity before the 2028 election.

“I’m absolutely sick to death of having conversations about internal party matters because people out in the suburbs are not having those conversations,”

Parton stressed his intention to bring all nine parliamentary members together on a single, forward-moving path to challenge the government in 2028.

He acknowledged past divisions within the party, crediting former leaders Leanne Castley and Jeremy Hanson for providing a fresh start by stepping aside and enabling a unified leadership approach.

“I think in recent months my party’s been divided by a line that separates people who hang on to things and people who leave things behind, and it is time to move forward,”

Long regarded as one of the party’s most capable media performers, Parton has often been seen as leadership material but had either lacked the numbers or chosen not to pursue the role until now.
