This Home-Grown Wonderkid Locked Down by the Jets for Two More Seasons

At only 18 years old, Will Dobson is one of the brightest young talents in the A-League. The Newcastle Jets have secured the promising attacking midfielder's future by extending his contract through the 2027-28 season.

Dobson, a Belmont Football Club junior who turned 18 in September, made his A-League debut just over a year ago. His performances impressed Jets coach Mark Milligan enough to earn a contract upgrade from a two-year scholarship to a full A-League deal, adding two more years.

"We are delighted that we have been able to secure 'Dobbo' until 27-28," said Milligan. "Will is a local player that embodies what it means to be from the region and play for his home team. He has a fantastic work ethic and has so much growth in him. Local fans should be excited to see him progress as a player and person over the coming years."

The Jets academy graduate made his first A-League appearance last season in round one against Melbourne City as a substitute. Over the 2024-25 campaign, he featured in 12 matches, starting once. Dobson also played a key role in Newcastle's Australia Cup win, scoring and assisting in the quarter-final against Macarthur FC.

Author's summary: Will Dobson, a local Newcastle Jets academy product, has earned a two-year contract extension after impressing with his skill, work ethic, and vital contributions to the team's recent success.
