Roar Striker Intent on Showing ‘Quality’ Against Old Club

Brisbane striker Justin Vidic denies having something to prove to his former club Newcastle on Sunday but is determined to demonstrate his “quality” after being released by the Jets at the end of last season.

Background with Newcastle Jets

Vidic was cast aside by Newcastle after scoring only once in 13 A-League appearances, 12 of which he came off the bench. The 21-year-old striker was not offered a new contract when Mark Milligan took over as Jets coach from Robbie Stanton.

New Opportunity at Brisbane Roar

With his professional career at risk, Vidic seized the chance to trial with Brisbane Roar. His committed, old-fashioned playing style fits well with coach Michael Valkanis’s straightforward and physical tactics.

“These things happen for a reason,” said Vidic ahead of the Roar-Jets match at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

“I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to. They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”
