Harvard women’s soccer traveled to New York City on Saturday to face the Columbia Lions, falling 2-1 after a hard-fought 90-minute match. This loss ended Harvard’s postseason aspirations.
Early in the fall, Harvard faced difficulties, experimenting with new lineups and contending with inconsistency and injuries, which raised doubts about their championship potential in a strong Ivy League.
However, as the conference season progressed, Harvard climbed toward the top of the Ivy League standings and looked poised to compete for the title.
Harvard entered the final match determined to give their all on the field. The previous weekend’s senior night defeat to the University of Pennsylvania was a tough blow, making the team’s trip to New York a desperate effort to earn at least one point to keep their championship hopes alive.
The Columbia Lions, with a record of 6-6-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the Ivy League, came into the match also seeking a rebound after losing to Princeton.
“Harvard entered the final match prepared to leave its heart on the field.”
