John Thompson: Revolutionary War Patriot Honored

In celebration of America’s upcoming 250th birthday, the Chief John Ross Chapter, NSDAR dedicated a DAR Revolutionary War Patriot marker for John Thompson.

John Thompson served as a Private in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War, enlisting at the age of 16 in the fall of 1781 under Captain Robert Kyle.

His responsibilities included guarding frontier settlements, with his station at Hickory Cove, and his enlistment lasting nine months.

According to his pension record and his father’s bible, John Thompson was born on May 18, 1765, in Rowan County, North Carolina, and lived in Rhea County until his death on May 16, 1839.

He is buried in the Thompson Cemetery in Spring City.

John Thompson dedicated his life to serving America during the Revolutionary War.
