Shoshana Bean, who starred as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked from 2005 to 2006, revealed why she hasn't yet seen Wicked: Part 1, even with the sequel Wicked: For Good set to premiere in theaters this November.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the New York Restoration Project Hulaween Gala on October 24, Bean explained her decision to delay watching the first film.
“I waited until the second, so I could watch them back-to-back,” said Bean, 48, adding she is “absolutely” excited to experience both movies in a row.
Bean expressed particular enthusiasm for seeing the song “No Good Deed” adapted for film.
“It’s a very cinematic song, and I would love to see it have more life than what a stage is capable of doing,” she explained. “I could not even possibly imagine to the extent that Jon Chu’s genius can dream, can create.”
Her anticipation highlights the unique opportunities film offers to bring stage performances to a new level of visual storytelling.
Having originated the role of Elphaba on Broadway, Bean’s perspective gives fans insight into the transition from stage to screen for this beloved musical.
