"Vesia is away from the team because of a deeply personal family matter," the Dodgers said in a statement posted before Game 1.
Dodgers pitchers have been wearing Vesia’s jersey number in tribute. Showing solidarity, several Blue Jays relievers—including Chris Bassitt, Seranthony Domínguez, Mason Fluharty, and Louis Varland—also displayed Vesia’s number during their appearances.
Photographs taken during the series captured moments of both teams’ pitchers and catchers participating in the tribute throughout decisive innings.
