Netflix is set to release the Western drama series The Abandons in December, following a rivalry between two powerful matriarchs in 1850s Oregon.
The story centers on Constance Van Ness, played by Gillian Anderson, and Fiona Nolan, portrayed by Lena Headey. Constance, backed by her inheritance, seeks the land currently occupied by Fiona and her adopted children.
"We are a crossroads Fiona," Constance says in the trailer. "My pursuit of your land is not greed. It is survival."
"God gave us this home, and only God can take it away," Fiona responds.
Constance also remarks with irony, "If I knew I was getting a sermon, I would've worn my Sunday finery."
Kurt Sutter, creator of Sons of Anarchy, served as the original showrunner but departed the series last year.
The official description states the series follows "a group of outlier families as they pursue life, land and power in 1850s Oregon."
The show explores themes of survival, land disputes, and family power struggles in a rugged historical setting.
Author’s summary: The Abandons highlights a fierce land dispute between two women in 1850s Oregon, combining rich characters and sharp dialogue to depict survival and power in the Old West.
