On November 7, the United States and Israel accused Iran of planning to assassinate Israel's ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neiger. This latest move represents an expansion of their conflict into a new region.
Israeli officials confirmed that Mexican authorities intervened to stop the assassination attempt. According to a statement from Israel's foreign ministry:
We thank the security and law enforcement services in Mexico for thwarting a terrorist network directed by Iran that sought to attack Israel's ambassador in Mexico.
A US official revealed that Iran's Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force began planning the plot in late 2024. The operation was disrupted during 2025 before it could be carried out. The plot allegedly involved recruiting operatives from Iran's embassy in Venezuela, a country led by a leftist president, Nicolas Maduro, who maintains a tactical alliance with Tehran.
The plot was contained and does not pose a current threat.
The US official added that Iran has a long history of targeting diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and others who oppose the regime, actions that should concern any country hosting an Iranian presence.
This incident highlights Iran's ongoing use of global covert operations against opponents, posing security challenges worldwide.
