Students' Angus Challenge Victory Recognized in Stormont

Four students from Enniskillen Royal Grammar School won the 2025 ABP Aberdeen Angus Youth Challenge and received praise in the Northern Ireland Assembly for their accomplishment.

Parliamentary Praise for Young Farmers

Ulster Unionist MLA Diana Armstrong acknowledged Conor Phair, Mackenzie Wilson, Jensen Lindsey, and Alfie Thompson for securing first place in the competition, which featured 20 teams from across Northern Ireland.

Competition Journey and Project Details

Since starting the contest in September 2024, the students combined practical farming experience with community involvement. After reaching the final, they received five calves from ABP Food Group to raise and finish over a 12-month skills development programme focused on the beef industry.

Their success also earned a £1,000 cash prize for their school.

In addition, the team developed a project titled “One Health: The Link Between Animal, Human and Plant Health”, addressing soil sustainability as a key environmental concern.

“As part of the challenge, the boys developed a project called ‘One Health: The Link Between Animal, Human and Plant Health’, which tackled the critical issue of soil sustainability.”
