ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly shared her honest opinion on the new John Lewis Christmas advert, expressing disappointment with the festive spirit of the ad.
This year’s advertisement features a father who receives a nostalgic gift from his teenage son—a vinyl record of Alison Limerick’s 1990s hit "Where Love Lives." The dad is transported back to his youth, recalling his raving days and his son's first moments, concluding with a heartfelt embrace and the tagline:
“If you can’t find the words, find the gift.”
Opening her show, Lorraine acknowledged the start of the festive season but expressed frustration about the tone of the advert:
“When are they going to do one that's just happy and lovely and celebratory but there you go.”
Later, she emphasized her preference for classic Christmas elements:
“We were saying it's the music that gets to you. Wasn't very Christmassy I have to say. I want jingle bells, I want Santa, I want Rudolph, I want noise, I want happiness.”
She also suggested the timing for such adverts should be later in the season:
“It's a bit too soon. Get November 5th, Bonfire Night, out of the way. It's a bit too soon.”
Kelly was not alone in her opinion; some viewers found the advert to be “boring” and lacking traditional Christmas cheer.
Lorraine Kelly criticizes the John Lewis Christmas advert for lacking typical festive joy, calling for a more cheerful, traditional approach to holiday advertising.
