Dr Hilary Jones, a regular guest on Lorraine Kelly's ITV programme, revealed he once appeared on the show while intoxicated and later apologised to the producers. The experienced doctor has been a consistent health expert on the show for several years.
Reflecting on his earlier appearances, 72-year-old Dr Hilary recalled a moment when his professionalism faltered live on air. He said:
“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. Of course, I hadn’t eaten, hadn’t drunk, and there was a lot of beer. I was scheduled to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine on her show.”
The doctor explained that while trying to set up the remote camera, he suddenly went live and was asked questions by Lorraine. He remembered:
“All I remember was giggling and laughing and talking rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me, I’ve made a big faux pas. What did I say?'”
Worried he had compromised his role, Dr Hilary called the show’s bosses the next day to apologise. He shared:
“I phoned them and said, 'I’m really sorry' and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant, you just sounded happy! You sounded euphoric and it was really energetic and lovely.’ So, I got away with it.”
Dr Hilary’s candid story highlights his human side, showing that even professionals might have unexpected moments on live television.
