Rams Sign Harrison Mevis to Compete for Kicking Job

The Los Angeles Rams have added kicker Harrison Mevis to their practice squad, giving him the chance to compete with second-year player Joshua Karty for the starting kicker position.

This move follows the team's signing of veteran long-snapper Jake McQuaide, who will contend with Alex Ward for that role. The organization’s approach shows a renewed effort to address their special teams performance.

“It’s all geared toward trying to be able to just get some solutions and some kick consistency really with our field-goal operation,” coach Sean McVay said Wednesday. “I think it’s important to have good competition at some spots that we feel we can have improved play.”

The Rams (6-2) are preparing to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Their earlier losses to the 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles highlighted recurring issues in the kicking game. During last Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints, Karty missed a 39-yard field goal and an extra point, continuing an inconsistent streak. So far this season, Karty has converted 10 of 15 field goals and 23 of 26 extra-point attempts.
