Vogue Williams opened up about a challenge that many parents will recognize — helping her son with his homework. On her podcast, she revealed that she’s finding her six-year-old Theodore’s maths assignments surprisingly tough.
Vogue, who’s also mum to Gigi, four, and Otto, three, said that her evenings have turned into learning sessions alongside her children. While she can manage the younger children’s work, Theodore’s exercises are pushing her limits.
“I’m back at school though because of the kids,” she said. “I’m relearning with them for their homework. I can do Gigi’s homework alright. It’s Theodore’s I’m struggling with a bit. I’m not even joking.”
Her honest comments struck a chord with other parents facing similar difficulties. One mother, Kelly, shared:
“I realised, the hard way, that I had taught my four-year-old the wrong way to spell. She came home with phonics and started teaching me!”
Another parent, Jayne, admitted she also felt lost during homework time:
“My 12-year-old was struggling with his maths and I was neither use nor ornament.”
What seems easy on paper — like year-one maths — can feel bewildering when parents sit down to explain it. The modern methods and unfamiliar terminology make simple sums seem far from straightforward.
Vogue’s co-host, comedian Joanne McNally, was quick to sympathize after recalling something she’d seen online.
“We don’t talk enough about the trauma of a parent sitting with their child trying to teach them maths.”
Vogue Williams admits that helping her son with maths homework has become a surprising struggle, a relatable moment for countless parents sharing the same nightly challenge.
