Jenson Button, who imposed a sex ban on his then-girlfriend while fighting to secure the Formula 1 drivers' championship, famously won the sport's most prestigious title in 2009 after an incredible rise from adversity.
At the end of the previous season, Button's F1 future was uncertain after Honda suddenly withdrew from the sport. The Brackley-based team, which later evolved into Mercedes, faced near collapse and potential job losses. However, a rescue effort led by team principals Ross Brawn and Nick Fry saved the team.
Powered by Mercedes engines, Button delivered a stunning start, winning six of the first seven Grands Prix and building a strong lead in the championship race.
Despite his early dominance, Button, now 45, grew tense as rivals Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel closed the points gap during the second half of the season.
Throughout the year, Button was supported by his model partner Jessica Michibata. Reflecting on her support after finishing fifth in Singapore, he said:
“My amazing girlfriend... after qualifying, we got to my room. I'm not going to tell you all the details but she said lie down, so I did, and she gave me a foot massage. She said, 'So tell me about today.' That was so cool. She really listens."
