Millions of Australians along the country's east coast are preparing for severe storms and heavy rain this weekend. After a turbulent start to the storm season, more thunderstorms and rainfall are expected.

Storm Forecast for Sydney and Surrounding Areas

Late thunderstorms with strong winds may affect Sydney on both Friday and Saturday evenings following warm daytime temperatures.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonathon Howe stated, “Today (Friday) we are looking at the possibility of thunderstorms all the way from southern Victoria across to South Australia and up into northern parts of NSW.”

Regions at Risk and Weather Conditions

“For these areas, we could see damaging wind gusts with thunderstorms as we head into Saturday,” added Mr. Howe.

Potential Hazards

Heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and large hail are also forecasted for the coastal and inland regions stretching from Wollongong to Sydney, Newcastle, Hunter Region, Mid North Coast, and parts of interior Queensland.
