Three inmates have been charged with the murder of convicted child killer Kyle Bevan, who was found dead in his cell at HMP Wakefield on November 5. The accused men are Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63.
They each appeared separately before Leeds Magistrates' Court via video link from Havertop Police Station. The brief hearings, lasting about a minute each, saw all three defendants wearing grey prison-issue clothing and escorted by police officers.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the charges, stating that officers were called to Wakefield Prison at around 8:25 a.m. after reports of an unresponsive inmate.
“You are charged with one allegation of murder. That is so serious I therefore have to send you to Leeds Crown Court,”
said District Judge Charlotte Holland during the proceedings. She added that the next step would be a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for November 10 at Leeds Crown Court. None of the accused were granted bail and all were remanded into custody.
The Prison Service identified the victim as Kyle Bevan, who had been serving a life sentence for killing his partner’s two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in 2020.
Three inmates face murder charges after fellow prisoner Kyle Bevan was found dead in HMP Wakefield, prompting legal proceedings now set for Leeds Crown Court.
