Three inmates have been charged with the murder of convicted child killer Kyle Bevan, who was found dead in his cell at HMP Wakefield in Yorkshire on Wednesday morning. The prison is a Category A facility known for housing some of the UK’s most dangerous offenders.
The deceased, 33-year-old Kyle Bevan, had been serving a life sentence for the 2020 killing of his partner’s two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. He was ordered to serve at least 28 years after inflicting catastrophic head injuries on the child during a prolonged attack.
Officers were called to the prison shortly after 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, according to West Yorkshire Police. Following the discovery, three fellow inmates were taken into custody and later charged.
The men charged are 45-year-old Mark Fellows of Warrington, 56-year-old Lee Newell, and 63-year-old David Taylor. All were inmates at HMP Wakefield at the time of the incident.
“Detectives have charged three men with murder after the death of a prisoner at HMP Wakefield on Wednesday, November 5,” said a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police. “Kyle Bevan, aged 33, was found dead in his cell on Wednesday morning. Mark Fellows aged 45, Lee Newell aged 56 and David Taylor aged 63, all of whom identify as white British and were inmates at HMP Wakefield, have been charged with murder. They have been remanded into custody and are due to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday.”
All three suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court for a preliminary hearing. Investigations into the circumstances of Bevan’s death are ongoing.
