Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, 37, is being extradited from Dubai to Miami to face an attempted murder charge. The charge relates to a shooting incident outside a celebrity boxing event in May.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that Brown was transported through Newark, New Jersey, where he was booked into Essex County Jail. A U.S. Marshals Service public affairs officer verified Brown's arrival from Dubai earlier that day.
"He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh,"
said Officer Michael Vega, spokesperson for Miami Police. He added,
"No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice."
A warrant was issued for Brown in June, charging him with attempted murder involving a firearm. The incident occurred on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street, outside the event venue.
An off-duty officer, providing security at the event, reported hearing gunfire and subsequently saw Brown involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot with another person.
Antonio Brown is being held accountable after fleeing Miami and posting videos from Dubai, showing that law enforcement’s persistence led to his extradition and upcoming trial.
