Scotiabank has pledged significant support to Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Melissa’s widespread destruction. The bank announced a contribution of CAD$400,000 (approximately J$48 million) to relief and rebuilding initiatives across the island.
The Scotiabank Foundation will further contribute J$100 million to assist with recovery efforts and strengthen Jamaica’s economic resilience. These funds will go to trusted organisations working directly with affected families and communities.
In addition, Scotia Group employees are assembling care packages valued at almost J$12 million for impacted areas. The bank will also match employee donations up to CAD$50,000 (around J$6 million). Altogether, Scotiabank’s initial commitment totals about J$165 million toward national recovery.
“The devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has been immense, with many of our clients, employees, and communities facing significant losses,” said Audrey Tugwell Henry, President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica.
