The 2025 Miss Universe pageant, held in Thailand, has been overshadowed by significant tension, prompting Nawat Itsaragrisil to apologise to the contestants during the Live Opening Ceremony on November 5.
Nawat Itsaragrisil, vice president for Asia and Oceania within the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) and head of the local organising committee, addressed the pressure surrounding the event.
“Everybody knows the past few days have been a lot of pressure. I think you must understand that the pressure is a lot. But I have not intended to harm anyone.”
He continued to express respect for the contestants and offered a sincere apology:
“I respect all of you. But I have to say that I am so sorry that it happened. I want to offer this opportunity to apologise to the delegates if anyone was not comfortable with what happened. I’m sorry.”
Nawat also apologised to the global Miss Universe fanbase:
“I am sorry for the Miss Universe fans around the world.”
The apology follows an incident on November 4, when Nawat publicly shamed Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, during a live broadcast. This led reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig and several other contestants to walk out in support of Miss Mexico.
In response, the Miss Universe Organisation reiterated its commitment to cooperation with the host community, the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI), and local partners to ensure the pageant’s successful continuation.
The 2025 Miss Universe pageant in Thailand experienced controversy, leading to an official apology from Nawat Itsaragrisil and a pledge from the organisation to work closely with partners for a successful event.
